The Delran Green Team will meet on August 15 at 7pm at the Delran Municipal Building on Chester Avenue. Our goal is to implement measures that make Delran a better place to live. If you’d like to help stop by our meeting and help us focus our strategies. This month we will be discussing and planning the following:
- Tree Inventories
- Arbor Day 2019 / Tree City USA application
- Ideas for collaboration with Riverside Township and Delran Schools
- Backyard Chicken Ordinance
- Wildflower Garden Maintenance
- Next steps for Actions that require Council involvement – Community Calendar, Flood Preparedness, Public Information and Community Engagement, Energy Efficiencies for Municipal Facilities
The Delran Green Team applied to Sustainable Jersey for a $2,000 grant. We plan to use the grant funds to create a Community Garden. We’re looking for interested gardeners to rent our planned 20 lots and volunteers to help construct the garden. Send an email if you’re interested in helping out with this project.
Would you like to make Delran a better place to live, work and play? Positions are available on the Delran Green Team. The Green Team works on actions to meet certification goals set up by Sustainable Jersey to fosters lifestyle changes designed to minimize environmental impact while protecting and maintaining our natural resources. Members are appointed by the Mayor and Council are expected to attend monthly meeting (second Wednesday each month), participate in Green Team events and take the lead on actions based on personal interests. Actions cover wide-ranging topics including, Arts, Brownfields, Community Outreach, Emergency Management,Health and Wellness, Land Use, Natural Resources, Public Information, and Waste Management. If you’re unable to make this level of commitment but would still like to get involved let us know what you’d like to do. There’s plenty of opportunities.
Join Rancocas Creek Watershed Ambassador Nina Odunlami and the Delran Green Team for our Build a Rain Barrel Workshop. This event is scheduled for Sunday June 28 at 10am at the Delran Public Works Garage. Bring the family and learn how practices such as harvesting rainwater reduce the amount of stormwater entering our rivers, streams and lakes and construct your own rain barrel to take home. Drinking water is good for you. But is bottled water the best choice? This award winning documentary explores the health and environmental dangers of plastic water bottles with a searing, in-depth look at the toxic chemicals used to make the plastic, the exploitation of water sources, and the devastating health impact of water bottle consumption. A discussion and taste test will follow movie.

Have you been to Amico Island in Delran? Volunteers are needed to help clean up the debris that floats in on the tide. Students – do you need community service hours? A letter certify hours can be provided. Hope to see you there.

Looking for some volunteers. Meet at the intersection of Mikes Crossway and Shinns Road in Woodland Township.
Looking for a few teens, adults and seniors to help create an on-line map of Delran’s important assets. We are kicking off this action item at our November 9, 2014 Green Team Meeting. We will brainstorm a list of assets including parks, schools, churches, and places to got with children, teens, families, and seniors. Volunteers can select assets to photograph and collect key information – names, address, phone, website, hours. Most of the work can be done on your own time. When you finish, you can forward the information electronically. Once all the information has been processed and the map is created, we will reconvene to see the final version of our map.
When: November 3 at 12 noon

Purpose: Opportunity to meet other environmentally minded people from Burlington County over lunch
