We’d like to encourage you to shop and eat local by purchasing fruits and vegetables from local growers, our county farmers! Their produce is usually picked the same day it’s sold. Supermarket produce may be weeks old before arriving at the store from large commercial agricultural companies in other parts of the United States.
Most local farm markets won’t open until May, so we have a few months to dream of Jersey Fresh before being able to purchase this year. Two farms very close by Delran have permanent buildings & sell seasonable produce and lots of other foodstuffs. They are Flying Feather Farm at the intersection of Bridgeboro & Westfield Roads in Moorestown and Hunters Farm on Union Landing Road in Cinnaminson. Both are open daily during the season. In addition, there is a farm market held on Saturday mornings from May thru October at the Burlington County Agricultural Center (former Winner Farm) at the intersection of Centerville & Hartford Roads in Moorestown.
Another way to buy local is to purchase a share from a CSA (community supported agriculture). There are several farms in Burlington County. Check out 1895 Organic Farm in Lumberton, Fernbrook Farm CSA in Bordentown, Hlubik Farms CSA in Chesterfield, Nature’s Own in Columbus, and Honey Brook Organic Farm in Chesterfield.
Open Air Farm stands include: Taylor Farm – off River Road in Cinnaminson, Darmo Farm – Cox Road in Moorestown, & Lew’s Farm Markets – Lenola Road as well as Church Street in Moorestown. All are open daily during the season. Some small farmers/gardeners here in Delran put up tables at the end of their driveways to sell their own produce. One is across from Conrow Road on Hartford Road. If you know of others, please let us know.
With all these options, everyone can shop and eat local and keep their buying power in the county. Besides – Jersey Fresh is the best! Why settle for commercial store-bought produce.
